Urgent help needed to give sight to 300,000 people in need

Optometry Giving Sight is asking for your urgent help to address this problem. Say YEStoday™ for a better tomorrow and help establish 10 vision centers to give sight to 300,000 people living in need.

Vision centers and locally trained eye care professionals have the power to make a significant impact by providing affordable, accessible vision care.

Click here to read about three vision centers that opened in Sri Lanka last year. One of these brought joy to Ranmanike (pictured left) who, at 59 years old, had her first ever eye examination and received a much needed pair of glasses.

Funds from the Say YEStoday campaign will help establish 10 vision centers across a range of countries. We anticipate that at least one of these vision centers will be in Haiti, and that it will play an important part in the reconstruction of vision care in the country, which was so recently devastated by an earthquake.

Please take this opportunity to Say YEStoday by making a personal or practice donation or inviting patients to ‘buy a brick'.

Isthmus Eye Care is honored to be a part of the only global fundraising initiative that specifically targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision due to refractive error.

Optometry Giving Sight was established in 2003 to address the needs of the 300 million men, women and children around the world who are blind or vision impaired simply because they don’t have access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses. Why? Because in some countries there are not enough trained eye care personnel and there is no personnel or infrastructure to support these desperately needed eye care services.

Optometry Giving Sight is a global fundraising campaign reaching out to the more than 200,000 optometrists around the world, and their 325 million patients, to fund the solution.

Optometry Giving Sight supports programs that offer not only eye exams and glasses in countries with little or no access to them, but that establish the infrastructure and train local human resources required for sustainable, quality vision care.

Isthmus Eye Care has raised over $18,000 towards this worthy cause to date, and Dr. Victor J. Connors provides his leadership as Chair of Optometry Giving Sight – USA  and a member of the Global Board.
