Scott A. Jens,
O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Jens has practiced family-oriented optometry since 1991. He grew up in the eastern Wisconsin community of Kiel and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Illinois College of Optometry.
He achieved the status of Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and has been an active member and volunteer in the Wisconsin Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. His service has included time on the WOA Board of Directors and ultimately the role of President in 1997, as well as time on the AOA InfantSEE Committee which he has chaired since 2003.
Dr. Jens is proud of the recognition given to him by his peers: he is the only doctor in Wisconsin to have been awarded both the Young Optometrist of the Year Award (1996) and Optometrist of the Year Award (2000). In 2002 received the WOA’s highest volunteer distinguishment, the Dr. Curtis F. Kenitz Optometric Service Award, for his efforts to establish a fully benevolent eye care clinic in the inner city of Milwaukee. In 2005, he received the WOA Presidential Special Service Award for his role in the development and national launch of the AOA InfantSEE public health program.
Dr. Jens has been very active in the Middleton community. He was long-standing secretary for the Sunset Ridge Elementary School PTA, and served on the school district's enrollment management committee in 2002. He is an active youth sports coach for local teams in ice hockey, baseball, flag football, and soccer.
Ultimately, his life is centered around his family. Cheryl, his wife, has a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, and now enjoys caring for their three children, Blake, Shay, and Bryn. Their nearly-annual family trips to Walt Disney World are a testament to the belief in the Disney principle of “dare to dream, and believe in what you are doing.” Recreational activities include running, golf, ice hockey, and any of the sports that his children enjoy. He also enjoys technology gadgets like his new iMac to burn old home movies onto DVDs.
